For surfers who want the trip to feel easier before it starts
In short: Surf Guide Books is created by Surf-Escape.com, part of Boardshortz.nl, to turn real surf travel knowledge into practical guidebooks for surfers who want to know the best surf spots for their level, where those surf spots are and when those surf spots work.
Jurjen van den Broek has written about surf travel for Boardshortz.nl for more than 15 years. He has personally visited many of the surf spots and surf campsites featured on Boardshortz.nl since childhood, and he travels two to three times a year to surf spots in Europe.
Jurjen surfs both shortboard and longboard. His travel stories focus on surfers who mainly travel in Europe, from families looking for approachable surf conditions to intermediate surfers who want better spot choices.
Many photos on Boardshortz.nl are created by Jurjen. He was co-host of the Surftips Podcast with Pepijn Tigges and is the author of Surf Guide for South West France, published in 2025.
Jurjen’s freeride stories with skis, snowboard and splitboard can also be followed on Snowshortz.nl.

Less guessing. More time in the water.
Surf Guide Books exists because many travelling surfers do not just need another forecast. They need context: which coast to choose, which surf spots fit their level, when those waves usually work and how to plan a better surf trip.
Built from real trips
The guides are based on years of surf travel writing, personal surf trips and practical experience along European coastlines.
Made for decisions
The goal is not to list every possible wave. The goal is to help surfers choose better regions, spots and travel bases.
Connected to editorial proof
Surf Guide Books connects to Surf-Escape.com and Boardshortz.nl to show the wider travel context behind the guides.
